Funniness

Carter has been so funny lately that I thought I should write some things down for us to remember about these silly toddler times.

~~The other day Carter was looking kind of sad & I asked him what was wrong. He said "Mommy, I'm not wronging anything."

~If you ask Carter what he wants to be for Halloween, he consistently says "a caterpillar". Daddy even offered to make him a robot costume & Carter still insisted that he wanted to be a caterpillar. So, over the weekend I searched high and low online to find a caterpillar costume for him. Turns out there are only like three caterpillar Halloween costumes out there. One is a baby bunting and I refuse to pay $50 for the cute Eric Carle costume. Long story short, I looked into other options and found a "Super Why" (one of Carter's favorite PBS shows) costume that I thought Carter would love. I showed it to him online today and he was not impressed. He still says he wants to be a caterpillar. End of story, right? Not quite. Later when I was pushing Carter in the swing, he started mumbling something under his breath. I asked him what he was talking about and he repeated a little louder "I don't want to be a Super Why, I want to be a Carter!!!!" Maybe we will just wear orange & black this year...

Mordecai Children's Garden

This morning the boys & I took a fun trip to the new Children's Garden at the Denver Botanic Gardens. We met our playgroup friends there and all seven kiddos had a blast! Other than the fact that we accidentally scheduled our play date on a "free day" (it was a little crowded), today was the perfect day to explore in the dirt and cool off in the waterfall. Carter loved getting his own miniature magnifying glass to use in the "Bird's Nest" area, but the water was definitely his favorite. Davis was content to just sit in the shade & take it all in. There was a lot to see and do and we can't wait to go again!

Taking the Stairs

Davis has discovered the stairs! Yikes--now that he knows where they are, I guess we'll have to start using the baby gate downstairs again. He is a mover & shaker!

Nine Months Old

Mr. Blue Eyes on his way out the door for his 9-month well check...

Can't believe my baby is nine months old! He is growing and thriving and we couldn't be more in love with him. Davis continues to be a sweet baby who is easy-going and playful. He is a good little sleeper and takes 2-3 naps a day, in addition to sleeping about 10 hours at night in his crib.

We had his well-child check today and were happy to see that he has met or exceeded all of his developmental milestones thus far. He is crawling, standing, cruising on furniture and even standing independently for brief periods without holding on to anything for support. He babbles to us all the time and has recently started "dancing" when we play music (just like big brother). It is pretty cute!

Davis is eating a lot of different baby foods and we are just starting to introduce finger foods. We are still taking things slowly due to his milk protein allergy, but hopefully we will be able to start whole milk in a few months!

Davis continues follow the growth curve, but his weight dropped off a little this time. I'm thinking it's probably because he has been sick the past (almost) two weeks now & hasn't been eating well consistently. Dr B is not worried at this point. Davis weighs 18 pounds 1 ounce and is 28 1/2 inches long. He is starting to grow into his big noggin as his head circumference was only at the 78%ile this check, versus at least 90%ile on all previous visits. He is a happy boy and we are enjoying watching him grow!

Grand Opening

There was a grand opening over the weekend for the new Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children. This was a long time coming, as they were talking about building this hospital when I started as a Child Life Specialist...12 years ago! Anyway, sounds like Sean and the boys had a fun time with lots to see and do. The new hospital is BEAUTIFUL and I am so happy to see it all come to fruition. Hopefully, we will never need to use it!

Trying New Things

Davis tried eating some "Puffs" (finger foods for babies) last week and was not too sure about them. Can you tell? Between that and his snotty nose, it was a pretty sad state of affairs.

The Boy Loves Numbers

Last week I took the boys to Target, and Carter saw this orange shirt hanging on the rack. He started yelling "Mommy, a number 4 shirt! A number 4 shirt!" He was so excited about it, and they were very inexpensive, so I thought maybe we would get a shirt with the number 3 since he will be three soon. Anyway, needless to say there were no other numbers. He was thrilled beyond belief to be able to take this shirt home. He even wore it in the store before we left! Since then, he has been asking to wear it every day and keeps talking to me about how we looked for a number 3 but couldn't find it so we got a number 4 shirt instead, and how he thinks Davis and I should get number 5 shirts. I just love this boy!

Yet another red flag that maybe our sweet, smart boy is growing up to be a little dorky. I wonder who he gets that from?!

Grandad & BBQ

We met Grandad & Grandma Nancy for dinner on Sunday. They were heading back home after a weekend in Estes Park for Nancy's family reunion. Even though the boys were still feeling kind of puny, we had great BBQ and a nice visit with them. Looking forward to seeing you guys again in October!

Mimi's (belated) Birthday

Mimi paid us a short visit last week on her way home from her 3G's trip, and we took the opportunity to celebrate her birthday since we didn't get to see her for her actual birthday last month. Carter loved the excuse to eat birthday cake & told me he wants a Lightening McQueen cake for his birthday in October. This kid knows what he likes!

I was cleaning in the kitchen when I noticed it was a little too quiet in the living room. Thankfully, they were just busy chewing on things. You never know with these two!

Baby Babble

I have really come to look forward to my one-on-one time with Davis while Carter is taking his afternoon nap. We get to sing and play and snuggle without having to share with big brother. Davis is cruising and climbing all over the place. He is still feeling sick, but even that can't keep him down. Set him down & he will take off...you never know if you will find him in the closet, in the bathroom or on top of a chair! Sure keeps me on my toes!

Almost Forgot!

Sean took the boys to Salina, KS over the weekend for a car show. He met his dad & two of his brothers there. Marc & Mike both brought their own cars to be in the show! Carter enjoyed getting to see them and play with his cousins Leah & Jace.

On Friday morning, Sean called to tell me that Davis had gotten his first tooth! It is on the bottom right and it looks like the bottom left tooth is getting ready to come in right beside it.

On Friday night, Sean and Carter spent a few hours in the ER of Salina's hospital to get Carter's ankle looked at. Carter has cellulitis on his right leg, we think from scratching at a bug bite that he had gotten earlier in the week. Needless to say, this was a scary thought for me as I was at work Friday night trying to get report on all my patients and find out what kind of medical facilities were available for my little boy in the middle-of-nowhere Kansas. If they had admitted him for IV antibiotics, I would have been in the car and on the road to KS in record time. Turns out that Salina actually has a pretty decent hospital and a 24-hour Walgreen's nearby. Thank God! More importantly, Carter's leg looks normal again and he only has a few more days of oral antibiotics.

Sean did a GREAT job of taking care of the boys while they were gone (not an easy job!). I don't know too many dads who would take both kids to the grocery store, let alone out-of-state! Also, a big thanks to Grandpa Dan for watching Davis while Sean took Carter to the hospital.

Out With the Old...

Our little puddle pool finally bit the dust. So, we decided to upgrade on a recent trip to Wal-Mart. The new pool is quite a bit bigger which is fun for the boys, but to Sean it is just a larger surface area of grass to potentially kill. Anyway, we tested it out yesterday in the 95+ degree heat and it was the perfect way to spend a Summer afternoon.
